God Has Spoken 2yo Ancient Guidance could be the good horse to launch Ryan Hill’s career in the training ranks in 2023-24.
Hill is based at Keysbrook and will complete his first full season as a conditioner next week following a career in the saddle that was curtailed by weight problems. “It was a natural progression,” he said after transferring licences in December 2021. “I loved the excitement of race-riding but got sick of the wasting.”
One of his first buys last year was Ancient Guidance. He was purchased out of a paddock for $2,000 and Saturday’s three-length win in the Glenroy Chaff Plate (1300m) sent his earnings to $128,830.
Ancient Guidance had claimed his maiden by four lengths at Belmont last month and the latest victory was just as impressive. He had been beaten twice between wins when inside draws meant he was bailed up with no galloping room.
“I had to ride him out of his comfort zone to hold the box-seat on the fence,” Vicky Corver recalled. “We settled back in the field in the clear today and it helped when they slowed up. He was on the bridle and let down like I know he can.”
Ancient Guidance (2g God Has Spoken – Indala by Galileo) is raced by Scott Kirkup and is a half-brother to minor winners by Lope De Vega (Ire) and Flying Pegasus. Their dam’s latest cover was to King Of Athens (USA).
God Has Spoken (Blackfriars) stands at Rivercrest Park for a $3,300 (inc GST) service fee and his sprinter Ghost Who Walks has been in career-best form during Belmont’s winter season winning three sprints including the LR Beaufine Stakes (1000m).
