Orbis focus on Ducimus

The impact of Orbis Bloodstock and its brand has gone coast-to-coast in Australia over the last twelve months.

The latest announcement that Orbis had secured a slot in the $14 million The Everest (1200m) at Randwick comes on top of a whirlwind sale-season highlighted by five yearlings that made $1 million and more at the Inglis Easter Sale.

Orbis Bloodstock is also entering the stallion market this year with the launch of Ducimus in Western Australia. The rising 5yo will stand his first season at Rivercrest Park for a $2,750 (inc GST) service fee.

Former Perth jockey Paul King heads up Orbis Bloodstock’s Australian operation which already includes over 100 horses in work. The best of them is the Kris Lees-trained mare In Her Time, a Group 1 winner of the VRC Lightning Stakes and ATC The Galaxy. She has just secured the Inglis slot into The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October 19.

“Orbis Bloodstock is here for the long haul,” King declared after completing a $7.40 million buying blitz at the Inglis Easter Sale. “We are very much focussed on quality and hopefully we can pinch another stallion out of the colts we’ve bought here.”

Topping the Easter shopping list was a $1.30 million colt by Danehill breed-shaper Redoute’s Choice. His Champion sire-son Snitzel has been credited with 88 stakes winners including Ducimus courtesy of a front-running victory in the LR Talindert Stakes (1400m) at Flemington.

“Paul’s Perth background obviously helps and Orbis has got right behind Ducimus with some major discounts,” Rivercrest Park owner Steve Hoare said. “It’s working really well. I had a call from a breeder we hadn’t heard from in five years. That’s encouraging and we’re looking at a good book first-up.

“He’s a muscular bull and a typical Danehill-line stallion,” Hoare added. “I was filling in Stud Book details last month and he measured 16 hands plus. He’s a 2yo stakes winner by Snitzel and the bottom-half of his pedigree is proven in Western Australian conditions.”

Ducimus is one of four stakes winners foaled by Beauty World and she is a direct descendant of influential broodmare Oh Calcutta (Streetfighter). Among the quartet is Lite’n In My Veins, a multiple Group 3 winner in Perth with further victories to his credit in Melbourne and Adelaide.

Lite’n In My Veins is a son of Royal Ascot Group 1 winner Henrythenavigator (USA) who represents the Mr Prospector sireline. Ducimus is free of Mr. Prospector and he offers an ideal outcross to broodmares by Hussonet, Rhythm, Woodman, Elusive Quality, Umatilla, Bellotto, End Sweep, Thunder Gulch, Secret Savings and El Moxie.

Ducimus is eligible for the Westsped Platinum Scheme and Steve Hoare can be contacted (0409 987 970) for further information or view the brochure for the details of discounts to Ducimus here
