Paris Calling presaged more ground-breaking news for her sire Ducimus with a dazzling victory at Belmont on Saturday.
The Trevor Andrews-trained 2yo filly (Photo / Western Racepix) was always travelling like a winner for comeback jockey Shaun O’Donnell. She pushed off the fence turning for home and put them to bed with an effective high-stepping action.
“That was quite convincing and she will go to the paddock now,” Andrews revealed. “She’s out of a Trade Fair mare that won over a mile and further so we will be looking at the 3yo feature races for fillies in the spring.”
O’Donnell echoed those comments following the two-length win over her stablemate Ayumi (Real Steel).
“That was easy. We got a lovely cart into the race and she won with the handlebars down.”
Hong Kong-based Orbis Bloodstock stands Ducimus at Rivercrest Park and studmaster Steve Hoare has announced they will be sending another six mares across from New Zealand and Melbourne to support their promising sire-son of Snitzel.
“Paris Calling was impressive and so was Eliteone when he won first-up at Ascot last month,” Hoare said. “Orbis are very happy with the way Ducimus has started and our meeting in Melbourne last week was another positive step forward.”
The recent influx of new broodmares has lifted the bar for the wider breeding industry in WA. Kingstar Farm and China Horse Club acknowledged the benefits of Westspeed Platinum when sending upwards of 16 mares to various studs earlier this month.
They’re in foal to leading Hunter Valley stallions and will become eligible for Westspeed Platinum bonuses with the Scheme’s breed-back option.
Orbis Bloodstock’s Kiwi mares transferring to Rivercrest Crest for intended covers by Ducimus are in foal to NZ sire sensation Per Incanto (USA). They include Kathies Choice (Redoute’s Choice), Severine (Pins) and Abit Iffey (Iffraaj).
The Melbourne mares heading west comprise Devilish Diva (Starcraft) in foal to Widden Victoria stallion Doubtland and the four and five year-old mares Angel Like (Divine Prophet) and Al Sahara (Pride Of Dubai).
Ducimus ($4,400) stands alongside God Has Spoken ($3,300) at Rivercrest Park with payment on a live foal. Service fees (inc GST).
