About Us

Rivercrest Park owner Steve Hoare gravitated to horses from an early age.

Born in England, his family emigrated to Western Australia in the 1960s and, as luck would have it, they moved in next door to Bill Duffy’s trotting stables in Wanneroo.

It was a steep learning curve for a youngster without any background in racing. Nevertheless, the lessons from a wily old horseman like Duffy have stood him in good stead handling a wide range of horse breeds.

Hoare was in the building trade after leaving school before the lure of working with warm bloods and arabians drew him back to the horse trade at Beefeater Park in Byford.

Managing Pine Brook Stud for mining magnate Chris Ellison followed and he stayed on at the Serpentine nursery when it was renamed Fernville Stud.

Hoare went on to supervise the stud careers of Group 1 stallions Marooned at Tilden Park and Dante’s Fury at Cromartry Park.

In 2010, Steve and his wife Diane bought Rivercrest Park which comprises over 100 acres of prime horse country between Stratham and Boyanup.
